The Odyssey in Real Life?  Hi, my name is Suhas Korimilli, and I'm learning about the Odyssey. I always thought Greek mythology was fascinating from the tales of brave heroes, perilous monsters, and the all-mighty gods who ruled over the world. Growing up I was in love with the Percy Jackson series, and the Odyssey shed some more light on what Greek mythology truly was for me. After all of that imagine my reaction when I found out that those mystical fabled lands from the Odyssey were in real life! All the stories of the giant one-eyes cyclops, the beautiful maiden Calypso, and the Lotus-eaters who will never let you go might be real. Those places are now top tourist destinations, each with its own thriving communities. So let's piece together the stories and reality! The Odyssey written by Homer, follows the travels of the mythical hero Odysseus as he returns home after 10 long years. The story shows us different aspects of Odysseus' journey the friends he made along the w...

Sicily, Italy      First, Let's start with Sicily, Italy the Island of the Cyclops! Besides the giant one-eyed Cyclops, it turns out Sicily is actually a pretty cool place. Who would've thought? Sicily's   beaches are absolutely gorgeous, there are so many ruins, and the people are incredibly friendly. Maybe just don't tell anybody your real name. In the Odyssey, Odysseus and his crew are taken hostage. To escape Odysseus stabs the Cyclops in the eye making him blind forever. This is a part of what made Odysseus' journey so difficult as his actions enraged the sea god Poseidon cursing Odysseus' fate on the sea.  Sightseeing is a major attraction in Sicily. The views are truly breathtaking—you don't even need two eyes for that. This is a Cyclops like one that kidnapped Odysseus. Be careful when you go to Sicily because you might just be taken hostage too. I don't know if you're into that, but Cylcops aren't my type.

Corfu, Greece        Corfu Greece, or Scheria in the Odyssey was Odysseus' last stop in his 10-year-long journey. Hopefully, it's not going to take you that long. Corfu has many historic monuments, stunning natural landscapes, and perfect weather all year. The architecture in Corfu is indefinitely one of a kind. With tons of attractions like the Achillon Palace and the Monastery of Paleokastritsa. The island is a UNESCO world heritage site and is definitely one of the best ones worldwide.  Take a look at Corfu! Corfus's crystal clear water is a part of what makes it such a desirable destination. The scenery and nature are truly one of a kind. Here is some of the fantastic Architecture located within Corfu. This is the Achillion Palace. The palace was not built because of Odysseus or anything Greek-related. In fact, it is Austrian! The palace was built by Empress Austria Elisabeth.

Djeriba, Tunisia Now if you want to go somewhere with some more peace and quiet Djeriba, Tunsinia is always an option. In the Odyssey, you might know it as the island of the Lotus Eaters. Legend has it that it's so beautiful that when you get there you might never want to leave. Just like Odysseus' crew. I mean why wouldn't you want to stay. Djeriba has everything from its specialty sandy beaches to its unique natural landscapes. Djeribia is known as the island of the Lotus Eaters in the Odyssey. Odysseus and his crew were almost fooled into spending eternity on the island until they realized what was happening.  Here's some of the beautiful Djeriba scenery. I mean I'd stay there forever. No wonder Odysseus' crew wanted to stay. Djerbia truly has some of the most astonishing natural landscapes in the world, making it a major tourist attraction worldwide. The beaches in Djerbia are truly astonishing, they are globally recognized across the world as a top touris...
